After scoring twenty two goals this season, the former Everton man has picked up the allocade in his first season as a Blade. It wasn't easy for James to pick up the prestigious award as he had close contenders to beat him to the award.
Derek Geary, Matt Kilgallon and Paddy Kenny all came second, third and fourth. Beattie is one of the Blades all time top goalscorers. Jimmy Dunne bagged forty one in 1930/31 while he scored thirty six in the following season. Keith Edwards, Jock Dodds, Derek Pace, Alf Ringstead, Tony Agana, Stan Fazackerley and Arthur Brown all have scored more in their respective seasons as a Blade. Beattie is tied with the first ever Premiership goalscorer Brian Deane on twenty two goals.
Meanwhile Stephen Quinn picked up the young player of the year award. James Beattie stepped up for another honour but this time it was for the goal of the season award. He picked up the allocade for his world class free-kick against rivals Sheffield Wednesday in the 85th minute.
Manager Kevin Blackwell picked up the highlight of the year award after all the performances his United team have given since his arrival.
