Ford had already played 45 minutes for the Dr Martins side in a pre-season friendly, but after contract talks decided to call it a day.
He took a few months off from football and signed on non-contract basis this week. He made his Twerton Park debut against Cambridge City last night which ended in a 0-0 draw.
Ford began his career with Oxford United in 1992 , he helped the U's gain promotion in 1996 from Division Two. He was sold to Sheffield United in November 1997 for a cut price feeof £400,000 when the club was in financial ruin.
He played 138 times for the Blades in the league and scored 6 goals, one was a penalty against Sheffield Wednesday in a 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane. He left the Lane for Oxford when his contract was up in summer 2002.
Though he left a year later after a injury destroyed his professional career, he had a trial at Bath City where e played 45 minutes in a friendly but decided to take a months out. Now at the age of 29 he has returned to football, playing for Bath City on non-contract terms.
