Bartley, on a season-long loan from Arsenal, insists team spirit remains high after Speed's decision to become Wales coach and that was typified by a dogged home win over Swansea.
Bartley said: "It has been a long time since we had a clean sheet, but we worked hard with JC and Sam during the week and our gameplan was to keep things tight.
"Considering JC and Sam did a lot of the coaching anyway it was a pretty settled week and as a team I thought we defended well and the back four were excellent.
"We showed how good the spirit is because after losing the gaffer we could have easily collapsed and got beaten, but everyone fought and we got what we deserved in the end."
