United parted company with Danny Wilson last Tuesday after 19 months in charge (and quickly installed Coach Chris Morgan in temporary in charge until the end of the season) following their 2-0 loss to Crawley Town.
It is understood that Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe is a keen admirer of Red Devil boss Barker and was highly impressed how he organized his side during their victory at Bramall Lane little less than a week ago.
He is also well-known with the personnel at the Lane having spent three years as a coach where he helped to develop today’s crop of young players; Callum McFadzean and keeper George Long.
Morgan himself may take the reins should he do a ‘good job,’ for united fans that would result only in promotion – anything else would be another failed season. Along with Barker he would join a list which to date (publically) includes; Neil Warnock, Stuart McCall, Phil Parkinson and Bobby Davison; though it wouldn’t surprise Blades-Mad if further names such as Owen Coyle and an unpopular choice Gary Megson.
