The Blades striker will now start the coming season at the Brittania Stadium after today's suprise announcement.
The 30 year-old signed a three year deal after agreeing terms and passing a medical on Tuesday.
Stoke manager Tony Pulis said of Asaba:
"I know Carl well. He is a fit, honest player with pace and power.
"He could be our 20-goal-a-season man".
The departure of the popular striker will come as a surprise to many Blades fans, especially given that his goalscoring record is as good as any at the club, with a strike rate of one every three matches whilst at Bramall Lane.
However, the number of strikers already at the club, coupled to the arrival of Jack Lester and the current chase for Ashley Ward's signature, gave a clear signal that Asaba must look elsewhere for regular first team football.
