Matt Done netted on the half-hour mark, cancelling out Danny Philliskirk's opener. But whilst Burn was sent off in the 62nd minute after recieving his second yellow card of the game, United were unable to force a winner.
Adkins told the press: "It's definitely a game we should have won. "We had our opportunities and it would put a different complexion on everything if we had been able to take them. Their player being sent off meant they sat a bit deeper, but we still created the chances and I thought we'd go on to win. We have players who you would trust to put the ball in the net, but it didn't happen in the second half and that was disappointing.
"Credit to Oldham because they worked really hard, but we came here to win and we got enough good players into good positions. All week we've been saying we want a winning run to give us the momentum we're looking for, but the bottom line is that we conceded a poor goal and didn't take the chances when we made them."
